Hercules' first labor was to slay the Nemean Lion, a beast with impenetrable skin. He was able to do this by strangling the lion with his bare hands. His second labor was to slay the nine-headed Hydra. He was able to do this by using a burning torch to cauterize the necks of the Hydra after he had cut off each head.
Hercules' third labor was to capture the Ceryneian Hind, a deer with golden antlers and bronze hooves. He was able to do this by chasing the deer for an entire year before finally catching it. His fourth labor was to capture the Erymanthian Boar, a giant wild boar that lived in the mountains. He was able to do this by trapping the boar in a snowdrift.
Hercules' fifth labor was to clean the Augean stables, which were filled with years of accumulated manure. He was able to do this by diverting two rivers to wash away the filth. His sixth labor was to slay the Stymphalian Birds, a flock of man-eating birds. He was able to do this by using a rattle to scare the birds away.
