Alexander Nevsky was born in 1220 in Pereslavl-Zalessky, a city in the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality. He was the son of Grand Prince Yaroslav II of Vladimir and his second wife, Feodosia. He was the younger brother of Grand Prince Andrew of Vladimir.
Alexander Nevsky was a great military leader and diplomat. He was able to defeat the Teutonic Knights in the Battle of the Ice in 1242 and the Swedes in the Battle of the Neva in 1240. He also negotiated a peace treaty with the Golden Horde in 1246.
